Sometimes life has a way of throwing each and every obstacle from all different aspects within our life into our path in one single motion. At this point we really struggle to cope as we think we lack the mechanisms needed to do so. Whether its work, family life, education or even your social life, it can all become too much. Trying to find time to work on each of these areas without losing your sanity can at times seem too much.
Truth is, we all feel the same way. We have good days, bad days, and sometimes these spells can turn into a week, or potentially longer. We find ourselves stuck in a rut. Feeling like a car trying to go 80mph in second gear, and feeling the struggle to keep going.
I myself have been through this, and still go through it, Before I used to keep going, never wanting to say no to anything or anyone, until it finally caught up with me and I crashed and burnt with exhaustion.
I don’t do that anymore because I don’t chase every opportunity thrown my way anymore. The most important thing to do is prioritise, the things that matter, the people that really matter, over the the things that really aren’t as important as we think.
Take friends for example. Seeing someone every other day doesn’t make you or them a good friend. It’s the quality of the friendship that matters, understanding each other, being loyal to the core with each other, supporting and motivating each other. It’s about growth. The friends you should cherish are the ones who understand all of this, and instead of complaining about the lack of minutes you spend with them, appreciate the time you spend with them, the advice you give them, and the support you provide. The same applies in work, in your day to day lives, and with family.
Balance is the key to a healthy life, but also you keeping your sanity. Ask yourself, ‘do I really need to say yes, is it urgent?’ if it’s not, then don’t sweat it.
But more than anything, always remember to find time for yourself. Forget gears, the car wont even start without fuel, just as you wont be able to keep up with life, if you dont take care of yourself.
Remember- Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.
