Have you ever heard a rumour about someone else that is so far-fetched, you can’t help but wonder how anyone comes up with such crazy gossip? Better yet, have you ever heard a rumour about yourself? How did it feel?
I’ve had personal experience in this, as i’m sure a lot of people have, and I can assure you it’s not a pleasant one. I remember this one time, I heard something someone was saying about me, and although it was as far away from the truth as you can go, I found myself walking on eggshells, trying hard to avoid doing anything that could give anyone any reason to believe that rumour to be true.
Then I thought to myself, hang on…why am I stressing over something that NEVER happened? If this person has time to go around spreading stuff about others, they clearly have too much time on their hands and very little aspiration in life.
I know what I’m doing, and I know my intentions. As long as I can look in the mirror guilt free and the people who’s opinion I actually value know what I’m made of, I really couldn’t care less about what others choose to believe. I’ve ended up with bite marks on my tongue from all the things I’ve never said, because I don’t have time nor the energy to waste on narrow-minded people.
Credit where it is due though, some people really have a knack for spreading lies. Their imagination and creativity has to be applauded. But why is it, when people hear rumours about others they forget about their own experience, and their feelings, and believe whatever is being whispered? Or even worse in my opinion, go on to tell others what they’ve heard? Just because you didn’t start the rumour, it does not make you any better a person, for just spreading it. You are just as bad. So next time you hear something about anyone, stop for a second and remind yourself of your own experience. Maybe that will stop your tongue from wagging.
And to those who have had a rumour spread about them just remember- a rumour is only as strong as the weak person who chooses to spread them. They will be forgotten in a day, and you will go on to do great things in your life. Have faith, always.
